The Hospitality Internship Programme is an 18-month structured workplace training initiative located at Transnet’s Kilner Park campus in Pretoria. Designed specifically for TVET college students who have completed their theoretical coursework in Hospitality, this programme offers practical on-the-job experience, mentorship, and institutional knowledge to fulfill diploma requirements and enhance graduate employability.

Key Responsibilities & Practical Workstream Exposure

Under the supervision of the Senior Specialist: Capacity Development, interns will gain hands-on operational exposure across corporate hospitality functions:

1. Catering & Event Coordination

  • Facility Operations: Assist in managing daily corporate catering, dining facility operations, and event setups at the Kilner Park office.
  • Customer Service: Deliver high-standard hospitality services to internal management, external stakeholders, and corporate guests.

2. Inventory & Quality Assurance

  • Stock Control: Support inventory tracking for catering supplies, kitchen equipment, and hospitality materials.
  • Hygiene Standards: Ensure strict adherence to food safety, hygiene protocols, and operational compliance.

3. Administrative Support

  • Record Keeping: Maintain logs, administrative records, and operational schedules within the hospitality unit.

Candidate Profile & Mandatory Document Checklist

To qualify for this 18-month TVET internship opportunity, applicants must meet the following entry criteria:

  • Academic Qualification: Must have completed all theoretical training for a qualification in Hospitality / Hospitality Management at an accredited TVET College.
  • TVET Requirement: Must require 18 months of practical workplace experience (N6 / In-Service training) to complete their diploma, with no bursary obligations.
  • Youth & Citizenship Status:
    • Must be a South African citizen.
    • Aged between 18 and 35 years old.
  • Work Experience: No prior work experience is required in the field of study.
