As part of the Takealot Group Graduate Programme, this 18-month Facilities Internship based at the Cape Town Central Office offers hands-on experience in corporate facilities management, building operations, contractor coordination, and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) compliance.
Working alongside top industry professionals, the intern will help manage office infrastructure, maintain helpdesk systems, analyze facilities data, and coordinate building maintenance across a fast-paced corporate environment.
Key Responsibilities & Operational Workstreams
During this 18-month internship, your daily deliverables will span eight primary operational areas:
1. Data Capturing & Operational Analytics
- Performance Metrics: Collect, capture, collate, and analyze facilities operational data to support management decision-making and continuous process improvement.
2. Systems Administration & Helpdesk Management
- Platform Support: Assist with administering access control systems, CCTV monitoring platforms, maintenance helpdesks, and finance/procurement portals.
3. Building Maintenance & Inspections
- Facility Checks: Conduct physical inspections across office spaces to identify and log maintenance needs covering HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general infrastructure.
4. Contractor & Vendor Coordination
- Liaison Management: Coordinate daily with internal departments, external contractors, and service providers to execute maintenance requests and office repairs promptly.
5. Procurement & Financial Support
- PO Generation: Obtain and compare supplier quotes, raise purchase requisitions, and issue purchase orders in alignment with corporate finance policies.
6. Project Support & Office Moves
- Space Planning: Assist with planning and executing office space changes, workstation relocations, and facility upgrade projects.
7. OHS Compliance & Governance
- Health & Safety: Support Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) inspections, track compliance documentation, record safety incidents, and assist with corrective action logs.
8. Documentation & SOP Maintenance
- Standard Operating Procedures: Help build and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), maintenance checklists, and compliance registers.
Candidate Profile & Requirements
To qualify for entry into this 18-month graduate internship, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualifications:
- Grade 12 / Matric Certificate PLUS an N6 Certificate or NCV Level 4 Qualification in:
- Facilities Management
- Engineering
- Building / Construction
- Property / Operations Management
- Office Administration (or related field).
- Grade 12 / Matric Certificate PLUS an N6 Certificate or NCV Level 4 Qualification in:
- Technical & Computer Skills:
- Computer literacy with proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Basic understanding of facilities management, building operations, maintenance systems, and OHS principles.
- Data capturing, data interpretation, and basic report compiling skills.
- Required Attributes & Soft Skills:
- Practical, hands-on, and proactive problem-solver.
- Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail and accurate record-keeping.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and coordinate external contractors effectively.
- Location: Based in or able to commute daily to Cape Town Central.
