About the Role & Law Firm

An established law firm situated in Lynnwood (Persequor Park), Pretoria is seeking a driven, presentable Junior Attorney to join their litigation and family law team.

This role offers a fantastic platform for an newly admitted attorney—or an attorney currently awaiting admission—to gain valuable court appearance experience and handle diverse litigation matters across both High Court and Magistrate’s Court jurisdictions.

Key Responsibilities & Daily Practice Management

The Junior Attorney will manage duties across four core practice areas:

1. High Court & Magistrate’s Court Litigation

  • General Civil Litigation: Draft pleadings, notices, affidavits, and court documents for general civil disputes.
  • Court Appearances: Represent clients in Magistrate’s Court and High Court proceedings, motion courts, and procedural hearings.

2. Family Law Practice

  • Family Law Matters: Attend to divorce proceedings, maintenance applications, domestic violence protection orders, and child care and contact disputes.
  • Client Consultation: Consult with clients, take detailed instructions, and provide clear legal advice.

3. Practice Management & Legal Research

  • Case Tracking: Monitor court timelines, ensure compliance with court rules, and manage case files.
  • Legal Research: Conduct legal research on case law, statutory provisions, and procedural rules to support litigation strategy.

4. Stakeholder & Client Liaison

  • Professional Communication: Liaise with clients, counsel, Sheriff offices, court officials, and opposing legal representatives.

Candidate Profile & Minimum Entry Requirements

To qualify for consideration for Reference CR2873, applicants must meet the following mandatory criteria:

  • Educational & Professional Qualifications:
    • Completed Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree (Essential).
    • Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa OR currently awaiting admission (Essential).
  • Work Experience & Expertise:
    • Practical experience in General Litigation, Civil Litigation, and/or Family Law (Mandatory; post-admission experience preferred).
    • Demonstrated ability to handle High Court and Magistrate’s Court procedures and court appearances.
  • Language & Personal Attributes:
    • Strong English proficiency and excellent written/verbal communication skills (Essential).
    • Presentable and professional demeanor.
  • Location, Licensing & Mobility:
    • Valid driver’s licence and own reliable vehicle (Mandatory for court attendances).
    • Must currently reside in Pretoria / within daily commuting distance of Persequor Park, Lynnwood (Essential).

Compensation & Benefits
