About the Role & Law Firm
A established law firm based in Nieuw Muckleneuk, Pretoria is seeking a driven Junior Litigation Attorney to handle general civil and commercial litigation matters. Serving a diverse Afrikaans- and English-speaking client base, the practice focuses on delivering tailored, high-quality legal representation across court jurisdictions.
This position is ideal for an admitted attorney with 1 to 3 years of post-admission litigation experience who possesses a strong grasp of court procedural rules and a passion for active court representation and client advocacy.
Key Responsibilities & Daily Practice Management
The Junior Litigation Attorney will manage duties across four core practice areas:
1. Civil & Commercial Litigation
- Pleadings & Documentation: Draft pleadings, notices, affidavits, motions, legal opinions, and commercial dispute correspondence.
- Court Appearances: Represent clients in Magistrate’s Court, Regional Court, and High Court proceedings.
2. Client & Counsel Consultation
- Legal Advice: Consult with clients to deliver thorough, practical legal advice tailored to their specific dispute requirements.
- Counsel Instruction: Brief and liaise with Advocates, experts, Sheriffs, and court officials.
3. Procedural Compliance & Legislation
- Court Rules: Enforce strict adherence to procedural timelines and rules across Magistrate’s, Regional, and High Court matters.
- Legal Research: Stay updated on statutory changes, precedent developments, and civil procedure amendments.
4. Practice Administration & Record-Keeping
- File Management: Maintain precise case files, billing entries, and operational records within internal administrative systems.
Candidate Profile & Minimum Entry Requirements
To qualify for consideration for Reference CR2850, applicants must meet the following mandatory criteria:
- Educational & Professional Qualifications:
- Completed Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree (Essential).
- Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa (Mandatory).
- Work Experience & Post-Admission Level:
- 1 to 3 years post-admission experience in General Civil and Commercial Litigation (Mandatory; maximum 3 years post-admission experience).
- Demonstrated working knowledge of procedural rules across Magistrate’s, Regional, and High Courts.
- Stable employment history with contactable references.
- Language Skills:
- Must be fully bilingual in Afrikaans and English with complete written and verbal fluency (Mandatory for the firm’s client base).
- Location, Licensing & Mobility:
- Valid driver’s licence and own reliable vehicle (Mandatory for court attendances).
- Must reside in Pretoria or within easy daily commuting distance of Nieuw Muckleneuk (Essential).
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary Range: R 20 000.00 Gross per month (Slightly negotiable depending on post-admission experience).
