Career Advice: The “Med-Tech” Edge

  1. Salesforce Familiarity: For the Customer Service roles, they mention Salesforce. If you have ever used a CRM or even watched a basic tutorial on how Salesforce works, mention it! It’s a huge plus in the corporate world.
  2. Theatre Etiquette: For the Orthopaedic Sales role in KZN, research “Operating Theatre Etiquette.” Being a technical assistant in a surgery environment requires extreme focus and an understanding of sterile environments.
  3. Engineering Compliance: For the Clinical Engineering role, brush up on ISO standards or medical device regulations. These roles are highly regulated, and showing you value safety is key.
  4. The Invoice-to-Cash Cycle: For Finance interns, understand the flow from when a customer is billed to when the cash is actually allocated. This is the heartbeat of business cash flow.

Possible Interview Questions

“For HR/Admin: How do you handle sensitive and confidential information?”

  • Answer: “I treat confidentiality as a non-negotiable standard. I ensure that physical documents are never left unattended and that digital files are only shared through secure, authorized channels, adhering strictly to POPI Act guidelines.”

“For Marketing/Supply Chain: How do you handle a situation where a deadline is approaching but you are missing critical data?”

  • Answer: “I would immediately identify the bottleneck and reach out to the relevant stakeholder. I prefer to communicate early rather than wait for the deadline to pass, and I would offer a temporary solution or a partial report while the remaining data is being gathered.”

“For Clinical Engineering: What is the difference between preventive and corrective maintenance?”

  • Answer: “Preventive maintenance is scheduled work done to keep equipment in good working order and prevent failure. Corrective maintenance is performed to fix equipment that has already broken down or is malfunctioning.”
