About the Company & The Development Team
Our client is an established leader in the South African and UK InsurTech spaces, expanding rapidly into global European and African markets. As a Junior SQL / Solution Developer, you will join a structured, collaborative operations team. Working under the guidance of senior engineers, you will deliver custom software solutions, manage client feature requests, investigate database/system bugs, and support high-impact InsurTech deployments.
Key Responsibilities & System Support
As a Solution Developer, your daily workflow will encompass five core software engineering and database management pillars:
1. Database Querying & Technical Problem Solving
- Data Investigation: Query, analyze, and manipulate relational data using T-SQL / MS SQL Server to investigate system discrepancies, data inconsistencies, or client-reported bugs.
- Solution Implementation: Design and execute SQL fixes and data scripts to resolve production issues efficiently.
2. Client Support & Feature Enhancements
- System Customization: Deliver tailored software configurations and system enhancements for insurers, brokers, and MGAs.
- Technical Troubleshooting: Diagnose root causes of complex incidents and implement robust, high-quality technical remedies.
3. C# Code Analysis & Integrations
- Syntax Navigation: Read and interpret basic C# code to trace application logic, debug backend workflows, and assist with API integration touchpoints.
4. Testing, Documentation & Quality Assurance
- Test Engineering: Develop and execute detailed user test plans for newly deployed software features and system patches.
- Knowledge Base Management: Maintain precise technical documentation for custom solutions, query logic, and system configurations.
5. Collaborative Operations
- Team Alignment: Work closely with senior developers, business analysts, and client success managers to deliver features on schedule and according to spec.
Candidate Profile & Minimum Requirements
To qualify for this opportunity, candidates must meet either the educational or work experience track below:
- Qualification / Experience Track:
- An IT / Computer Science / Information Systems Qualification (Diploma, Degree, or Advanced Certificate) OR
- At least 2 years of relevant working experience in a similar SQL support, database, or junior developer role.
- Database & Query Languages (Essential):
- Working knowledge of MS SQL Server (supported versions).
- Proficiency in writing MS SQL / T-SQL or similar structured query languages (e.g., PostgreSQL, Azure SQL).
- Software & Analysis Skills (Essential):
- Familiarity with basic C# syntax and object-oriented programming fundamentals.
- Intermediate MS Excel skills (data modeling, lookup functions, data transformation).
- Bonus / Advantageous Knowledge:
- Domain knowledge in InsurTech, Insurance, FinTech, or Financial Services.
- Hands-on exposure to REST APIs, SSIS, SSRS, Azure Logic Apps, or Flowgear.
