The Finance Intern will join the Momentum Health cluster in Centurion. In this role, you will provide administrative and financial support to the finance team, gaining hands-on exposure to day-to-day accounting activities, general ledger maintenance, statutory compliance, audit support, and financial reporting under experienced professional guidance.

Key Responsibilities & Practical Exposure

As a Finance Intern at Momentum Health, you will gain practical, workplace-based training across four core performance pillars:

1. Operational Accounting Processes

  • Transaction Processing: Capture daily financial transactions into the accounting system with speed and accuracy.
  • General Ledger & Journals: Support the preparation, capturing, and maintaining of general ledger entries and journal postings under supervision.
  • Reconciliations: Perform bank, balance sheet, accounts payable, and accounts receivable reconciliations; investigate and resolve outstanding line items.
  • Asset Management: Assist in maintaining the fixed asset register and supporting physical asset verification exercises.
  • Audit Support: Collate and organize financial records, invoices, and vouchers required during internal and external audits.

2. Records & Compliance Administration

  • Documentation Verification: Verify supporting documentation before payment runs and maintain structured digital/physical filing systems.
  • Month-End / Year-End Support: Assist with month-end close procedures, management report compilations, and statutory submission information gathering (including VAT considerations).

3. Client & Stakeholder Service

  • Query Resolution: Professionally respond to internal departmental queries and liaise with suppliers regarding outstanding invoices or statements.
  • Service Delivery: Maintain confidentiality and deliver precise financial support within agreed turnaround times.

4. Governance & Financial Controls

  • Internal Controls: Ensure all processed transactions comply with Momentum Group’s internal financial policies, governance standards, and authorization matrices.

Candidate Profile & Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this graduate opportunity, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Academic Qualifications:
    • Grade 12 (Matric) with Pure Mathematics (Mathematical Literacy considered where applicable).
    • A completed National Diploma, Bachelor’s Degree, or Advanced Diploma in any of the following:
      • BCom Accounting / BCom Finance
      • Financial Management
      • Cost and Management Accounting (CMA)
      • General Accounting / Finance
  • Employment & Citizenship Status:
    • Must be a South African Citizen or legally authorized to work in South Africa.
    • Must not be participating in another internship or graduate programme at the time of appointment.
  • Work Arrangement: Willingness to work on-site at the Centurion offices full-time.
  • Software & Technical Skills:
    • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (specifically MS Excel functions, formulas, and spreadsheets).
    • Basic understanding of debit/credit principles, bookkeeping, and financial administrative workflows.
    • Awareness of accounting software/ERP systems and SA VAT principles is advantageous.
