An opportunity has opened for a skilled Software Developer II to join a high-performing engineering team in South Africa. This role is designed for a mid-level software engineer with 3+ years of hands-on experience in building scalable, fault-tolerant applications, designing complex technical components, managing deployment pipelines, and collaborating within an Agile SDLC environment.
Key Responsibilities & Engineering Workstreams
As a Software Developer II, your core technical deliverables will span five primary domains:
1. Technical Design & Architecture
- System Architecture: Develop complex technical components and robust system designs that are scalable, maintainable, reusable, and observable.
- Solution Decomposition: Partner with Designers, Product Owners, and Engineering Leads to decompose business requirements into technical architectures and backlog tasks.
2. Full-Lifecycle Software Engineering
- Scalable Code: Write high-quality, clean, fault-tolerant code following industry standards and Agile practices.
- Deployment Artefacts: Create, test, and manage automated deployment packages, build scripts, and release artefacts in collaboration with DevOps teams.
3. Testing, Quality & Observability
- Automated Testing: Develop comprehensive unit test suites, integration tests, and system test cases to validate software stability.
- Production Support: Perform root-cause analysis, troubleshoot software defects, and provide level-3 production maintenance support.
4. Documentation & Technical Mentorship
- Knowledge Base: Maintain accurate technical architecture documentation, API schemas, and asset knowledge bases.
- Mentorship: Guide, review code for, and mentor junior software developers on engineering best practices.
5. Continuous Improvement
- Process Refinement: Drive continuous improvement in code quality, CI/CD pipelines, and software development lifecycle (SDLC) standards.
Candidate Profile & Technical Requirements
To qualify for consideration, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Experience & Qualifications:
- Matric / Grade 12 / NSC: Essential.
- Diploma / Degree / Certificate: In Computer Science, Information Technology, or relevant programming languages (Preferred).
- Certifications: Professional certification in relevant programming languages/frameworks (Preferred).
- Experience: 3+ years of professional software development experience.
- Core Technical Competencies:
- Proficiency in modern programming languages and software design patterns.
- Strong knowledge of Data Structures, algorithms, and software optimization techniques.
- Solid understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies.
- Experience with Source Control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, and automated deployment practices.
- Hands-on experience with system integration, RESTful APIs, and application testing frameworks.
- Soft Skills & Collaboration:
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional product, design, and DevOps teams.
