Requirements to Apply
SGS is looking for candidates with a specific technical foundation and the ability to work in a demanding field environment:
- Academic Level: NQF Level 2–4 in Chemical Engineering (or a similar technical field).
- Schooling: Grade 12/Matric or N3 with Mathematics and Science as core subjects.
- Mobility: Must possess a valid Code 08 driver’s licence.
- Status: Currently unemployed.
- Location: Must be a resident of Durban.
What You’ll Actually Do
Your day will rarely be the same twice. You will be responsible for the “first line of defense” in quality control. Your daily tasks include:
- Inspection & Verification: Checking the cleanliness of containers (Road/Rail/ISO-tanks) and pipelines before products are loaded.
- Sampling: Collecting product samples from various sources and ensuring they are correctly labeled and registered for laboratory analysis.
- Measurement: Performing tank gauging to determine product levels and temperatures, and issuing accurate dip sheets.
- Operational Control: Sealing valves and hatches, manning loading operations (such as bitumen loading), and monitoring heavy-duty tankers.
- Documentation & Traceability: Recording every inspection detail neatly and accurately. In this industry, if it isn’t documented, it didn’t happen.
