About Volkswagen Group Africa & The Logistics Internship
Volkswagen Group Africa (VWGA) is a premier automotive manufacturer operating one of Africa’s largest vehicle production facilities in Kariega, Eastern Cape.
The Logistics and Fleet Management Internship is a structured fixed-term program designed to integrate young talent into Volkswagen’s high-volume manufacturing and vehicle distribution operations. Working directly inside the Logistics and Fleet Management division, interns gain hands-on exposure to automotive supply chain logistics, inbound component tracking, outbound vehicle distribution, and corporate fleet operations.
Key Responsibilities & Operational Workstreams
In this operational logistics role, your daily deliverables will cover four primary areas:
1. Fleet Management & Logistics Support
- Fleet Operations: Assist in coordinating corporate vehicle fleets, tracking vehicle allocations, and managing maintenance, licensing, and handover records.
- Inbound & Outbound Logistics: Support component supply chain tracking, warehouse inventory movements, and finished vehicle dispatch operations.
2. Supply Chain Data Analysis & Reporting
- Data Verification: Capture, analyze, and verify daily logistics metrics to ensure seamless flow from suppliers to assembly lines.
- Reporting: Generate daily logistics performance summaries and fleet efficiency reports using SAP and Microsoft Office tools.
3. Inventory Control & Auditing
- Stock Audits: Participate in routine physical inventory audits across parts distribution centers and vehicle staging yards.
- Discrepancy Tracking: Assist in identifying supply chain bottlenecks, delivery delays, or inventory discrepancies.
Candidate Profile & Minimum Entry Criteria
To qualify for this graduate internship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Academic Qualification: Completed Degree or National Diploma in:
- Logistics Management / Supply Chain Management
- Transport Economics / Operations Management
- Industrial Engineering / Business Administration (with logistics modules).
- Technical & System Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (data handling, formulas, pivot tables).
- Advantageous: Exposure to SAP (ERP logistics modules) or logistics management software.
- Workplace Requirement: Able to work on-site at VWGA facilities (mobile/remote work is not possible for this operational role).
- Personal Attributes: High attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and a proactive mindset aligned with Volkswagen’s culture of accountability and innovation.
