About CAB Foods

CAB Foods is a widely recognized, premier food manufacturing, retail, and baking supply corporation known for providing everyday baking solutions to household consumers and commercial bakeries alike. Operating a multi-branch retail network alongside centralized manufacturing and distribution hubs, the company thrives on inventory precision, efficient logistics, and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) market agility.

To maintain optimal operational efficiency, CAB Foods relies heavily on raw data. The Data & Analytics Division is expanding to integrate a dedicated Junior Data Analyst. This role serves as a key analytical engine, converting millions of raw operational data points into clear, executive-level roadmaps that directly influence purchasing patterns, pricing metrics, and inventory strategies.

Core Analytical Scope & Key Responsibilities

The Junior Data Analyst will work collaboratively across cross-functional departments to clean, model, interpret, and present critical business intelligence data:

  • Sales Performance Metrics: Track, monitor, and analyze daily and seasonal retail branch sales velocity, identifying buying trends and consumer preference shifts.
  • Stock & Inventory Optimization: Analyze stock holding levels, supply chain lead times, and wastage data to help warehousing teams mitigate inventory shortages and excess stock positions.
  • Financial Governance Support: Assist with the tracking of internal cost-of-sales data, profit margin fluctuations, and promotional pricing effectiveness.
  • Operational Efficiency Analytics: Extract and compile performance logs from distribution and retail operations to pinpoint workflow bottlenecks and optimize logistical systems.
  • Reporting & Dashboarding: Design, compile, and maintain highly visible spreadsheets, performance dashboards, and concise administrative summaries for senior management reviews.

Educational Qualifications & Desired Tech Stack

To thrive within CAB Foods’ data environment, candidates should ideally bring a blend of the following foundational credentials:

  • Tertiary Education: A completed Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Data Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Commerce, Computer Science, or an equivalent analytical field.
  • Spreadsheet Mastery: Advanced proficiency in MS Excel (including lookups, advanced data cleaning, pivot tables, and conditional data modeling).
  • Business Intelligence (BI) Tools: Exposure to or practical knowledge of automated data visualization platforms like Power BI or Tableau is highly advantageous.
  • Database Queries: Basic familiarity with structural programming or database querying scripts (such as SQL) to retrieve records from enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems is a major plus.

Essential Skills & Behavioral Competencies

  • Strict Attention to Detail: Exceptional precision when cross-referencing records to guarantee bulletproof accuracy in executive reporting.
  • Data Translation Capacity: The distinct ability to assimilate complex, raw datasets and summarize them into clear, actionable business insights.
  • Agility & Urgency: A proactive problem-solver who can adapt quickly to changing parameters within a fast-paced FMCG retail and manufacturing landscape.
  • Communication Value: Strong verbal and written communication skills to deliver data findings to cross-functional operational managers comfortably.

Career Advice for CAB Foods Applicants

  1. Highlight FMCG or Retail Familiarity: If you did your university capstone project on retail datasets, analyzed inventory trends during holiday work, or have basic knowledge of food manufacturing pipelines, place that front and center on your CV.
  2. Quantify Your Portfolio: Don’t just say you know how to analyze data. Use concrete bullet points in your professional summary: “Developed automated Excel tracking models reducing weekly stock-sheet collation time by 4 hours during academic project.”
  3. Keep Your File Format Clean: HR personnel sift through hundreds of analyst profiles daily. Ensure your resume is compressed into a clean, single-document PDF under 2MB, making your email address, phone number, and technical skills grid instantly visible on small mobile viewports.

Sample Interview Preparation Questions

Technical & Data Modeling Questions

  • Question (Excel Data Discrepancy): “When merging monthly sales extraction files from two separate retail branches, you notice the stock code formats do not match, creating errors in your formula. Walk us through how you would cleanly sanitize and format this data.”
  • Question (FMCG Insight Extraction): “If management notices a sudden 15% drop in sales volume for a primary baking product line over a 30-day period, what data streams (such as stock availability, promotional pricing, or competitor actions) would you pull first to run a root-cause analysis?”

Behavioral & Collaborative Attributes Questions

  • Question (Explaining Data Simplistically): “How do you approach presenting a complex, highly mathematical data trend to a retail branch manager or warehouse supervisor who doesn’t have a technical background in statistics?”
  • Question (Prioritizing Analytical Requests): “In a busy corporate retail setting, the procurement team might request an urgent supplier report while the marketing team simultaneously demands promotional data. How do you manage your workflow and maintain strict accuracy under tight deadlines?”
