Career Advice for Flume Data Applicants
- Highlight Your Technical Projects Matrix: Because this internship is designed to breed a Junior Data Scientist/Analyst, showcase any technical code or analysis you have completed. Dedicate a section of your CV to “Academic Projects & Code Exposure” and detail your experience writing basic SQL queries, using formulas in Excel, or building Python scripts.
- Showcase Digital Analytics Exposure: If you have experimented with Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Facebook Pixel, or built a basic dashboard in Power BI or Tableau during your studies, put those tools at the top of your resume. Agency data teams prioritize candidates who understand how marketing data metrics interact.
- Align Your CV with Flume’s MATTER Values: Stand out by explicitly weaving Flume’s core values—such as Excellence, Mentorship, or Thrive—into your career summary statement. Show recruiters that you aren’t just looking for a job, but are actively seeking an environment focused on growth and professional mentorship.
Sample Interview Preparation Questions
Technical Analytical, SQL & Dashboarding Questions
- Question (Data Cleaning Logic): “In an agency environment, you will collect digital marketing data from multiple sources like Google Ads, LinkedIn, and Instagram. If you notice a sudden, massive discrepancy between the traffic recorded on your dashboard and the conversion numbers inside the database, what analytical steps would you take to investigate the error?”
- Question (The Role of Data Visualization): “When building a client-facing dashboard in Power BI or Tableau, how do you decide which type of chart or visual layer to use when displaying highly technical marketing performance data to a non-technical brand manager?”
Behavioral & Career Growth Questions
- Question (Progressing Into Data Science): “This internship is built as a pipeline into a Junior Data Analyst/Scientist role. What specific technical skills—such as Python modules, SQL database architecture, or advanced statistical modeling—are you most eager to master during your time at Flume to achieve that career progression?”
- Question (Handling Multi-Tasking Under Agency Deadlines): “Agencies operate at a very fast pace with multiple client demands moving at once. Can you share an example of a time during your tertiary studies where you had to balance multiple urgent assignments simultaneously, and how you ensured your final data analysis remained accurate?”
