The Role: The Heart of the Network
The Core Network is the central part of a telecommunications network that provides various services to customers who are connected by the access network. As a Core Engineer, you are responsible for the reliability, capacity, and evolution of the systems that handle authentication, mobility management, and call routing.
Key Technical Responsibilities
- Subscriber Management: Maintaining and troubleshooting Home Subscriber Servers (HSS) and Home Location Registers (HLR).
- Call & Data Routing: Managing the Evolved Packet Core (EPC) or 5G Core (5GC) to ensure seamless data flow and low latency.
- IMS Management: Overseeing the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) for Voice over LTE (VoLTE) and Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWiFi) services.
- Protocol Analysis: Deep-dive troubleshooting using signaling protocols such as SIP, Diameter, and GTP.
- System Upgrades: Performing software patches and hardware expansions on core nodes (MME, SGW, PGW) during maintenance windows.

- Experience: Proven, hands-on experience in a Core Network environment is non-negotiable.
- Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of 4G (LTE) and 5G network architectures.
- Location: Must be based in or able to commute to Midrand, Gauteng.
