Career Advice for Absa Applicants

  1. The “CIB” Mindset: Corporate banking is different from retail banking (your personal bank account). It involves massive loans, mergers, and international trade. In your interview, mention your interest in economic trends or market movements.
  2. Excel is Non-Negotiable: Investment banking lives in spreadsheets. If you have any certification in Advanced Excel (Pivot tables, VLOOKUPs), highlight it prominently.
  3. Mentorship Value: Absa emphasizes mentorship. Be prepared to talk about how you seek out feedback and how you have used advice in the past to improve your performance.

Possible Interview Questions

  • “What do you know about ‘Know Your Customer’ (KYC) and why it’s vital for a bank’s security?”

Behavioral
