The Technology Engineer Intern position is an intensive technical role based at the Netstar head office in Midrand. Embedded directly within the New Product Development (NPD) and engineering ecosystem, the successful candidate will assist in testing, diagnosing, and validating mobile surveillance hardware, video analytics software, IoT telemetry devices, and firmware components while serving as a crucial bridge between QA, development, and support teams.
Key Responsibilities & Technical Workstreams
In this telematics and surveillance engineering role, your daily deliverables will cover four core technical pillars:
1. Mobile Surveillance & Systems Testing
- Hardware & Firmware Testing: Assist in testing mobile surveillance cameras, digital video recorders (DVRs), telemetry sensors, and IoT system components.
- Test Case Execution: Develop and execute basic test cases, test scenarios, and regression scripts for new product releases.
2. Technical Diagnostics & Data Analysis
- Log & Video Diagnostics: Analyze raw telemetry logs, video streams, and system data metrics to isolate root causes of hardware or software faults.
- Issue Tracking: Log, categorize, and prioritize technical bugs, firmware glitches, and system anomalies in internal ticketing systems.
3. Tier 2 Support & Escalations
- Support Coordination: Field basic technical support requests from internal engineers, operational staff, and corporate clients.
- Engineering Escalation: Interface with senior QA engineers, software developers, and external partners to resolve complex system failures.
4. Documentation & Quality Assurance
- Reporting: Document testing results, maintain bug reports, and assist in creating user training guides for deployed surveillance solutions.
Candidate Profile & Strict Academic Requirements

- Academic Qualification (NON-NEGOTIABLE): Bachelor’s Degree in Electronic Engineering (Note: This is strictly the only degree qualification accepted by the engineering team).
- Academic Performance: Minimum 70% – 80% cumulative academic average across university studies.
- Experience Level: 1 to 2 years of exposure or project experience in New Product Development (NPD) or electronic hardware testing.
- Domain Knowledge: Strong interest and practical understanding of electronic components, telematics, signal processing, IoT hardware, or mobile video systems.
- Key Soft Skills: Rigorous analytical thinking, methodical diagnostic capabilities, high attention to technical detail, and clear written communication skills.
- Work Arrangement: 100% On-site at the Netstar campus in Midrand, Gauteng.
