Key Role Expectations & Operational Focus Areas

As part of the SARS Graduate Talent Pool, successful candidates will be trained to contribute across nine key strategic focus areas:

1. Service Excellence & Compliance Facilitation

  • Clarity & Ease of Compliance: Assist taxpayers and traders in understanding and fulfilling their legal tax obligations through physical and digital channels.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Support public engagement initiatives to improve trust and confidence in the tax administration system.

2. Modern Operations, Technology & Data Analytics

  • Data-Driven Insights: Support teams leveraging machine learning, data science, and modern algorithms to detect non-compliance and gain operational insights.
  • Digital Systems: Engage with modernized, streamlined tax platforms, digital customer interfaces, and automated workflows.

3. Agile Public Sector Administration

  • Resource Stewardship: Drive efficient, accountable use of state resources to achieve quality outcomes.
  • Resource Navigation: Work flexibly across face-to-face service desks, telephony, desktop systems, and virtual collaboration tools.

Candidate Profile & Minimum Entry Requirements

To qualify for inclusion in the SARS Graduate Talent Pool, applicants must meet the following mandatory criteria:

  • Educational Qualifications:
    • Minimum of a 3-year National Diploma (NQF Level 6) or Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 7).
    • Higher qualifications (Honours, Master’s, or Doctorate — NQF Levels 8 to 10) are fully eligible.
    • Fields of study include (but are not limited to): Accounting, Finance, Taxation, Law, Economics, Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, Data Analytics, Public Administration, Business Management, Supply Chain, and Engineering.
  • Experience Requirements:
    • No previous work experience is required.
  • Age & Citizenship Criteria:
    • Aligned with youth employment initiatives: Open to candidates between the ages of 18 and 35 years.
