DHL Express is seeking a dedicated Export Channel Controller to join its dynamic Operations team in Kempton Park, Gauteng. Reporting to the Exports Supervisor, you will ensure the seamless movement of international export shipments by resolving customs queries, verifying tariff documentation, contacting exporters for missing paperwork, and maintaining bond compliance.

Key Responsibilities & Daily Deliverables

The Export Channel Controller will oversee export clearance operations across four core functional areas:

1. Export Query Management & Queue Monitoring

  • Queue Actioning: Continuously monitor shipment queues and action export queries promptly to prevent shipment holds.
  • Exporter Engagement: Contact exporters and clients directly via phone and professional email correspondence to request missing customs documentation, declarations, and shipment details.

2. Customs Entries & Documentation Audit

  • Data Verification: Review key export shipment details, including exporter credentials, Harmonized System (HS) tariff headings, rebate codes, exchange rates, and currency values.
  • Entry Processing Handover: Prepare and hand over finalized export queries and pre-alerts to ZA and TCS Entry Clerks for formal customs lodging.

3. Bond Control & Escalation

  • Ageing Bond Audits: Track and monitor ageing export shipments in customs bond, escalating delayed cargo to avoid penalties and storage bottlenecks.
  • System Tracking: Maintain accurate, real-time shipment updates and query histories within the DCE system.

4. Customer Communication & Quality Compliance

  • Status Updates: Keep clients informed on shipment milestones, customs delays, and potential service impacts.
  • Global SOP Adherence: Adhere strictly to DHL quality standards, South African Customs Act regulations, and Global Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Candidate Profile & Minimum Entry Requirements

To qualify for consideration for this position at DHL Express, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Qualifications:
    • Grade 12 / Matric Certificate or equivalent (Essential).
    • Diploma/Certificate in Supply Chain/Logistics or a Customs Clearance Diploma (Essential).
  • Experience Requirements:
    • Minimum 2 years of experience in Customs Entries (Essential).
    • Minimum 2 years of experience in Customer Service or Call Centre operations (Essential).
  • Technical & Regulatory Knowledge:
    • Solid knowledge of the South African Customs Act and SARS export procedures.
    • Proficiency in computer systems, customs clearing software, and MS Office.
  • Soft Skills & Attributes:
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a track record of professional email correspondence.
