Giants Media is a creative agency focused on modern digital storytelling, brand management, and media production. They operate in a fast-paced environment where the focus is on impact and creativity. For a graduate, this is a “laboratory” setting where you can experiment with new trends in marketing and design while learning how a media house operates from the inside.
Role Overview & Career Tracks
Giants Media is looking for fresh talent in three core areas:
- Marketing Track: You will learn how to build brand awareness, assist with social media strategies, and understand how to engage different audiences in the digital age.
- Human Resources Track: You will gain exposure to the administrative side of a creative business—learning about recruitment, team culture, and employee documentation.
- Graphic Design Track: This is a portfolio-building role. You will work on real briefs, creating visual assets for social media, websites, and brand identities.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Currently a Final-Year Student or a Recent Graduate in Marketing, HR, or Graphic Design/Visual Communication.
- Experience: Zero Experience Needed. This is strictly for those starting from scratch.
- Attributes: A “Growth Mindset,” a willingness to work for experience, and a passion for the media industry.
- Availability: Must be able to commit to the programme despite the non-stipend nature (ideal for those needing credits for their qualification).
Career Advice: The “Experience” Strategy
- The Portfolio Power-Up: For Graphic Designers, treat this like a paid job. The work you produce here will be the difference between your next job paying R5k or R15k. Use every task to sharpen your skills.
- Marketing Metrics: For Marketing students, focus on learning the tools (like Meta Business Suite, Canva, or Google Analytics). List these specific tools on your CV after the internship.
- Networking: In the media world, who you know is as important as what you know. Use this time to build relationships with the team at Giants Media; they may refer you to paid opportunities later.
- Time Management: Since there is no stipend, treat this as a part-time “career lab.” Be professional, show up on time, and show the company that you are worth a future investment.
Possible Interview Questions
“Why are you interested in a non-stipend internship at this stage of your career?”
- Answer: “I am focused on the long-term value of my career. Right now, I need high-quality, hands-on experience and mentorship that I can’t get in a classroom. I want to build a portfolio at Giants Media that proves I can handle real-world challenges.”
“For Designers: Walk us through your creative process when you get a brand new brief.”
- Answer: “I start with research to understand the target audience. Then, I sketch or wireframe my ideas before moving into software like Photoshop or Illustrator. I always keep the client’s goal in mind to ensure the design isn’t just pretty, but functional.”
“For HR: How do you think the HR needs of a creative media company differ from a traditional corporate bank?”
- Answer: “Creative companies need more flexibility and a focus on culture and inspiration, whereas banks might focus more on strict compliance. In a media house, HR’s job is to ensure the environment stays innovative while keeping the necessary structures in place.”
