The Footgear ICT Department in Marlboro, Sandton, is opening its doors to ambitious TVET graduates looking to complete their practical workplace requirement. As an N6 IT Intern, you will receive hands-on exposure to real-world desktop support, network troubleshooting, hardware maintenance, and IT administration. You will work directly under the supervision of experienced IT professionals, bridging the gap between your theoretical studies and a career in enterprise tech support.
Practical Work Exposure & Key Responsibilities
During your placement, you will support day-to-day ICT operations and gain practical exposure across six core technical areas:
1. First-Line User Support & Helpdesk Operations
- Ticket Management: Log, track, and follow up on incoming IT support requests using the company’s internal ticketing portal.
- User Assistance: Provide friendly, prompt first-line support to staff for basic hardware, operating system, printer, email, and network-related issues.
2. Hardware & Software Deployment
- Workstation Setup: Assist with unboxing, assembling, configuring, and deploying desktop PCs, laptops, mobile devices, printers, and user accounts.
- System Updates: Install, configure, and patch approved software applications under direct supervision while maintaining software license compliance.
3. Basic Network & Infrastructure Maintenance
- Connectivity Checks: Assist with basic local area network (LAN) and Wi-Fi troubleshooting, verifying cable connections, and escalating unresolved network faults to senior engineers.
- Data Integrity: Support routine data backup procedures, secure file management, and basic system administration tasks.
4. IT Asset Management & Security Compliance
- Asset Registers: Maintain precise IT asset records, equipment tagging registers, and technical documentation.
- Security Policies: Enforce company policies regarding cybersecurity awareness, data confidentiality, and responsible technology usage across all user touchpoints.
5. Project Support & Administrative Duties
- Rollouts & Training: Assist senior ICT staff with system rollouts, hardware refreshes, and basic end-user technology training.
- General Admin: Perform general administrative and filing duties within the IT department to ensure operational efficiency.
Candidate Profile & Minimum Entry Requirements
To meet Footgear’s institutional internship criteria and TVET completion guidelines, applicants must possess the following:
- Academic Qualification: Must hold a completed N6 National Certificate / Statement of Results in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related ICT field.
- Experiential Status: Must have completed all theoretical N4–N6 coursework and require practical workplace experience to obtain your National N-Diploma.
- Citizenship: South African Citizen.
- Technical Baseline: Solid understanding of computer hardware, desktop software, operating systems (Windows), basic networking principles, and the Microsoft Office suite.
- Workplace Flexibility: Must be willing and fully available to work over weekends, public holidays, and busy festive trade periods when retail support demands peak.
- Experience Level: No prior formal work experience is required (prior exposure to basic PC repairs or IT support is an added advantage).
