About the Opportunity & Role Overview
A prominent motor retail and automotive group is recruiting a qualified IT Helpdesk Technician (Job ID: 820) to join their IT operations team based in Milnerton, Western Cape.
In the automotive retail sector, seamless IT infrastructure is critical—connecting showroom management systems, parts inventory databases, service workshop diagnostics, and customer relationship software. The successful candidate will act as the first and second line of support for dealership staff, troubleshooting hardware, software, network connectivity, and specialized automotive dealer management systems (DMS).
Key Responsibilities & Core Duties
The IT Helpdesk Technician will manage day-to-day technical operations across the dealership network:
1. First & Second Line Technical Support
- Ticket Management: Log, prioritize, escalate, and resolve user requests and IT incidents via the helpdesk ticketing system within defined service level agreements (SLAs).
- Desktop & Endpoint Support: Troubleshoot PCs, laptops, monitors, printers, label printers, and mobile devices across office and workshop environments.
- Operating Systems & Software: Install, configure, and maintain Windows OS, Microsoft 365, antivirus software, and core business applications.
2. Dealer Management System (DMS) & Automotive Applications
- Specialized Software Support: Assist users with login, rights management, and technical troubleshooting on Automotive Dealer Management Systems (e.g., Automate, Pinnacle, Kerridge/Drive, or Evolve).
- Diagnostic & Workshop Equipment: Provide basic network and technical connectivity support for workshop diagnostic laptops and diagnostic tool interfaces.
3. Network & Infrastructure Maintenance
- Local Area Network (LAN) Support: Diagnose basic network connectivity issues (routers, switches, cabling, Wi-Fi access points, and VPN connections).
- Active Directory & User Administration: Manage user accounts, password resets, email group permissions, and security access levels in Active Directory / Azure AD.
4. Hardware Deployment & Asset Management
- Setup & Onboarding: Prepare, image, and deploy new hardware workstations and mobile devices for new personnel.
- IT Asset Tracking: Maintain accurate registers of IT hardware, licenses, and peripheral equipment across dealership sites.
Candidate Profile & Minimum Entry Requirements
To qualify for consideration for Job ID 820, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualifications:
- Grade 12 / Matric Certificate (Mandatory).
- A+ and N+ Certification (MCSA / MCSE or ITIL certifications are an added advantage).
- Diploma or Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Systems Support.
- Work Experience:
- Minimum 2 to 3 years of proven experience in an IT Helpdesk, Desktop Support, or Technical Support role.
- Motor Retail / Automotive sector experience (working within a dealership group) is highly preferred.
- Technical Knowledge:
- Proficiency in Windows 10/11, Microsoft 365 administration, and Active Directory.
- Solid understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, VPNs, switches, and routers).

- Strong customer service orientation and patience when dealing with non-technical dealership staff.
