About the Opportunity & Enterprise Consulting Environment

This premier business solutions and technical consulting firm specializes in deploying enterprise-grade corporate performance management (CPM) and business intelligence (BI) systems. By aligning advanced data engineering with financial modeling, the group enables corporate clients to optimize their budgeting, forecasting, and strategic decision-making frameworks.

The Data Analytics Division is launched its intake for a Graduate Data Analytics Developer. This permanent position serves as a high-yield technical launchpad, training a mathematically and logically minded graduate to become an expert in enterprise financial modeling. You will step directly into a fast-paced consulting environment, receiving structured mentorship to master IBM Planning Analytics (TM1)—one of the world’s leading enterprise analytics architectures.

Technical Scope & Engineering Responsibilities

Under the direct guidance of senior solutions architects and data leads, the graduate developer will assist across four primary technical quadrants:

1. Data Architecture & OLAP Cube Design

  • Multidimensional Modeling: Learn to design, build, and optimize multidimensional Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) cubes to handle complex business data.
  • Rules Engineering: Develop, debug, and maintain complex business rules and data calculations using the specialized IBM Planning Analytics (TM1) engine.

2. ETL Engineering & Pipeline Automation

  • Data Integration: Design and build robust Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) routines to map, clean, and import massive datasets from multiple legacy source systems into centralized models.
  • Data Extraction: Construct automated data extraction scripts to push modeled insights back to corporate databases and external client reporting lines.

3. Front-End Interface Design & Business Intelligence

  • UI/UX Development: Create and deploy intuitive user interfaces tailored for corporate executives to capture, review, and adjust operational business data.
  • Reporting Suites: Design, deploy, and maintain dynamic interactive reports, management dashboards, automated data tables, and trend graphs to visualize analytical insights.

4. Client Consulting & Project Support

  • Stakeholder Communication: Liaise directly with corporate clients, providing clear technical project feedback, gathering system requirements, and offering ongoing application support.

Candidate Profile & Minimum Entry Requirements

To satisfy compliance screening protocols and automated tracking pipelines, applicants must strictly possess the following baseline credentials:

  • Academic Threshold: A minimum 3-year tertiary qualification from an accredited university in one of the following domains:
    • Computer Science
    • Information Technology
    • Commerce (Information Systems / Analytics Focus)
    • Industrial Engineering
    • Note: Final-year students completing their qualification by the end of 2026 are highly encouraged to apply.
  • Accounting Foundation: Minimum Matric Accounting is mandatory (having tertiary-level commercial or management accounting modules will be highly advantageous).
  • Technical Aptitude: Strong logical and analytical thinking ability, a clear programming aptitude, and a sound understanding of basic computing principles.
  • Legal Status: Applicants must be legally eligible to work in South Africa.

Required Personal Attributes & Competencies

  • Consulting Agility: The ability to remain calm, professional, and adaptive within a fast-paced client-facing environment.
  • Proactive Evolution: A self-starter mindset with a strong willingness to learn and continuously develop complex, specialized software skills.
  • Synergy & Accountability: The baseline capacity to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within agile project delivery teams.
  • Information Ethics: High professionalism, absolute integrity, and accountability, with the willingness to undergo background checks (credit, criminal) required for secure corporate environments.

Career Advice for Data Analytics Developer Applicants

  1. Highlight Your Dual Programming and Accounting Skills: This role is unique because it blends software development with financial data logic. On your CV, explicitly highlight your accounting modules alongside your programming skills. Create a small table titled “Commercial & Technical Alignment” to show you understand both Code (Java, Python, C#, or SQL) and Finance (General Ledgers, Income Statements, or Balance Sheets).
  2. Detail Your Database and ETL Experience: OLAP cubes and TM1 rely heavily on how data structures connect. If you have built databases, written complex SQL queries, or managed data transformations for university projects, dedicate 3-4 bullet points to detailing those tasks. Use terms like joins, database normalization, data cleansing, or schema design.
  3. Keep Your Document Layout Scannable and High-Contrast: Consulting recruiters review hundreds of graduate applications. Keep your resume to a clean, professional, single-column PDF format. Use clear headings and bullet points so screening managers can spot your technical degree and accounting baseline within five seconds.

Sample Interview Preparation Questions

Technical Engineering, ETL & Accounting Logic Questions

  • Question (Understanding OLAP vs. Relational Databases): “This position involves building multidimensional OLAP cubes in IBM Planning Analytics. Can you explain, in your own words, the conceptual difference between a traditional relational database (like SQL) used for transaction logging, and a multidimensional database used for high-speed corporate reporting and forecasting?”
  • Question (Bridging Finance and Code): “IBM TM1 requires writing rules to automate financial calculations. If a client asks you to build a business rule that calculates a company’s ‘Gross Profit Margin’ dynamically across multiple regional branches, what financial inputs do you need to trace, and how would you approach checking your logic for errors?”

Behavioral & Consulting Fit Questions

  • Question (Managing Client Communication): “In a data consulting role, clients may sometimes struggle to articulate exactly what they want their reporting dashboard to look like. How would you use your communication and analytical skills to extract their business requirements and turn them into a technical design?”
  • Question (Adapting to Specialized Software): “IBM Planning Analytics (TM1) uses its own unique rules engine and TurboIntegrator scripting scripts that aren’t typically taught in standard university courses. Walk us through your personal strategy for rapidly upskilling and mastering a proprietary corporate technology stack when deployed on a live project.”
