About the Client & The AI Junior Developer Pathway
CA Headhunters is currently recruiting for a forward-thinking technology enterprise based in Sandton. The business is expanding its Artificial Intelligence and Automation engineering capabilities to build next-generation enterprise solutions.
This role is structured as a 12 to 18-month accelerated career development pathway. Working directly under the mentorship of senior AI architects and lead engineers, the Junior AI Developer will build end-to-end AI pipelines, engineer large language model (LLM) prompts, implement Robotic Process Automation (RPA) workflows, and integrate smart components into .NET and Python software environments.
Key Responsibilities & Daily Deliverables
The AI Junior Developer will contribute to software development operations across four core functional areas:
1. AI Pipelines, Prompt Engineering & API Integrations
- AI Feature Build: Develop AI-powered application features and solution components using modern LLM APIs under senior guidance.
- Prompt Engineering: Design, test, and optimize prompt structures and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines for enterprise application use cases.
- API Integrations: Build and maintain RESTful API integrations connecting external AI models and cloud services with internal backend systems.
2. Robotic Process Automation (RPA) & Workflow Build
- Process Automation: Design, configure, and maintain RPA bots to automate repetitive, rules-based business operations and data extraction processes.
- System Connectors: Integrate automation workflows across legacy databases, web portals, and enterprise software systems.
3. Software Testing, POCs & Deployment
- Proof of Concepts (POCs): Support rapid prototyping and build functional AI Proofs of Concept to demonstrate feasibility for emerging client requirements.
- Deployment Support: Assist in unit testing, debugging, system documentation, and CI/CD deployment of AI features.
4. Professional Learning & Mentorship
- Code Reviews: Participate in structured code reviews, pair-programming sessions, and continuous technical training to master .NET, Python, and enterprise AI design patterns.
Candidate Profile & Minimum Entry Requirements
To qualify for consideration for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualifications:
- BSc / BIT / Diploma in Computer Science, Software Development, Information Technology, or a related field (Essential).
- Software Engineering Foundation:
- Junior / early-career developer with foundational proficiency in Python and/or .NET (C#) (Essential).
- Good understanding of web services, RESTful APIs, JSON, and software integrations (Essential).
- AI & Automation Exposure:
- Demonstrated passion for AI and machine learning concepts.
- Prior exposure to prompt engineering, OpenAI/Anthropic APIs, LangChain, or RPA software (e.g., UiPath, Power Automate, Automation Anywhere) (Highly Advantageous).
- Location & Work Schedule:
- Must be located in or around Johannesburg/Gauteng and comfortable working onsite in Sandton on a hybrid schedule (Essential).
- Strong willingness to learn and accept technical guidance from senior engineering mentors.
