Company Profile: South African Breweries (SAB)

SAB (an AB InBev company) is the heart of the South African beverage industry. They operate on a “Dream-People-Culture” philosophy.

  • The Owner Mindset: This is their most important cultural pillar. They want people who take responsibility, treat company resources as their own, and are never satisfied with the status quo.
  • Meritocracy: SAB is famous for being a place where your results matter more than your age. If you deliver, you grow fast.
  • Learning Philosophy: They use the 70-20-10 Learning Model to develop their trainees.

Career Advice: How to Stand Out

  1. Be a “Generalist Specialist”: Even if you are an Accountant, show that you understand how Logistics affects the bottom line. SAB loves cross-functional curiosity.
  2. Demonstrate Resilience: The brewing industry is 24/7 and fast-paced. Highlight “Grit”—the ability to stay calm and effective when things get difficult.
  3. Know the Sustainability Goals: Research SAB’s “100+ Sustainability Goals” regarding water stewardship, circular packaging, and climate action.

Possible Interview Questions (STAR Method)

SAB uses behavioral interviewing to see if you fit their high-pressure culture.

  • Ownership: “Tell me about a time you saw a problem that wasn’t ‘your job’ but you fixed it anyway. What was the result?”
  • Adaptability: “You will change departments every 6 months. How do you plan to add value to a team in a field you know nothing about?”
  • Data-Driven: “Describe a time you used data or technology to improve a process or solve a conflict.”
  • Conflict: “Tell me about a time you had to deliver a result with a team that didn’t agree with your approach.”
