About the Client & Role
The client is a leading South African InsurTech software house with a growing footprint across the UK, Europe, Africa, and global insurance markets. They provide an end-to-end insurance management system that powers brokers, insurers, and Managing General Agents (MGAs) globally.
As a Junior SQL Solution Developer, you will join an agile operations team providing technical software support, database solutions, bug fixes, and feature enhancements. Operating in a hybrid model (2 days in-office in Rosebank or Stellenbosch), you will write SQL queries, analyze data, troubleshoot system incidents, and interface with C# and integration technologies.
Key Responsibilities & Daily Technical Deliverables
In this technical support and solution development role, your daily deliverables will cover four primary workstreams:
1. Database Querying & Technical Support
- SQL Development: Write, maintain, and optimize MS SQL and T-SQL queries to extract data, resolve system errors, and execute client data requests.
- Incident Investigation: Investigate, debug, and troubleshoot software incidents, data anomalies, and system bugs in production environments.
2. Client Solution Design & Implementation
- Client Support: Provide technical software support and deliver tailored solution enhancements for insurers, brokers, and MGAs.
- Testing & Delivery: Develop user test plans for newly built features, ensuring solutions meet functional specs and high-quality standards.
3. Integration & Code Analysis
- Code Verification: Analyze basic C# syntax and script logic to isolate where application code interacts with SQL databases.
- Integration Support: Assist in data flow mappings, API integrations, and ETL processes using SQL/Azure tools.
4. Technical Documentation & Collaboration
- Documentation: Document technical workflows, root-cause fixes, and system enhancements for internal knowledge sharing.
Candidate Profile & Technical Requirements
To qualify for this junior SQL role, candidates should meet the following criteria:
- Qualifications & Experience (Path A or Path B):
- Path A: Completed IT / Computer Science / Information Systems Qualification (Degree or Diploma).
- OR Path B: Minimum of 2 years of practical work experience in a similar SQL / software support role.
- Core Technical Stack:
- Working knowledge of MS SQL Server and query languages (MS SQL, T-SQL, or similar structured query languages like PostgreSQL, Azure SQL).
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel (data handling, formulas, analysis).
- Basic understanding of C# syntax and object-oriented programming concepts.
- Advantageous Skills:
- Knowledge of InsurTech, Insurance, FinTech, or Financial Services business logic.
- Exposure to REST APIs, SSIS, SSRS, Azure Logic Apps, or Flowgear.
- Key Soft Skills: Analytical mindset, structured problem-solving skills, clear documentation, and excellent written/verbal communication.
- Locations: Based in or around Rosebank (Johannesburg) or Stellenbosch (Cape Town) for hybrid working.
