The Quantum Leap Academy is Absa’s flagship two-year technology graduate development program. It is specifically structured to cultivate technical proficiency, leadership capabilities, and deep domain expertise across three core technology pillars:
- Software Engineering
- Platform Engineering
- Solution Design & Architecture
Program Structure & Core Responsibilities
During this 2-year program, Quantum Leap Graduates undergo intensive hands-on workplace training and formal skill acceleration across six core areas:
1. Workplace Experience & Hands-On Engineering
- Rotational Projects: Engage in real-world software, cloud, and infrastructure projects across various Absa Business Units (BUs).
- Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams, product owners, and business analysts to manage project deliverables.
2. Specialized Learning & Tech Development
- Curriculum Acceleration: Participate in structured technical learning tracks aligned with modern banking systems and cloud architecture.
- Emerging Tech Exposure: Stay abreast of emerging frameworks, DevOps tools, cybersecurity standards, and enterprise best practices.
3. Operational & Project Contributions
- System Support: Assist development teams and internal business clients with software maintenance, code reviews, and bug resolution.
- Agile Delivery: Contribute to sprint planning, technical documentation, and code deployments in line with BU goals.
4. Risk, Governance & System Stability
- Incident & Recovery Support: Participate in incident management, threat mitigation, and disaster recovery exercises.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all code and platforms adhere to Absa’s Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework and financial regulations.
Candidate Profile & Minimum Entry Requirements
To qualify for consideration for the Quantum Leap Graduate Programme, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualifications:
- Completed Honours Degree (NQF Level 8) or Postgraduate Qualification in technical or commercial quantitative fields (Essential).
- Accepted Disciplines: Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Mathematics, Statistics, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or Business/Commerce with strong technical specialization.
- Work Experience:
- Entry-Level / Graduate position (0 to 1 year experience).
- Work Setup & Location:
- Hybrid work arrangement based in Johannesburg, Gauteng (or as agreed per BU placement).
