As a Solution Engineer Intern based at Microsoft’s corporate offices in Johannesburg, Gauteng, you will work on real-world client engagements, shadow senior technical leads, build product expertise, and help deliver technical demonstrations for major enterprise customers.
Key Responsibilities & Rotational Workstreams
As a Solution Engineer Intern, your daily activities and development milestones will cover four key operational areas:
1. Customer Engagement & Technical Shadowing
- Client Interactions: Engage directly with enterprise customers alongside experienced Microsoft mentors and technical architects.
- Contextual Research: Research client business environments, technical stacks, and industry context to build deep Microsoft product expertise.
2. Solution Demonstrations & Technical Wins
- Product Demos: Assist in preparing and executing live technical demonstrations of specific Microsoft cloud, software, and AI solutions.
- Reference Architecture: Build foundational expertise in working with Microsoft reference architectures and technical sales frameworks.
3. Product Strategy & Competitive Intelligence
- Feedback Integration: Gather customer feedback to help build awareness of product strategy needs and competitive strategies.
- Readiness Materials: Consume and leverage internal readiness resources to continuously expand domain knowledge and promote team readiness.
4. Community & Professional Development
- Global Collaboration: Collaborate with teams and fellow university interns across the world while engaging in continuous technical training.
Candidate Profile & Programme Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for consideration under Microsoft’s BBBEE Internship Programme, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
- Citizenship: Must be a South African citizen (BBBEE Programme eligibility requirement).
- Educational Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing (final year with no more than 6 months remaining) OR completed a Bachelor’s degree in the last 6 months in:
- Computer Science
- Information Technology
- Software Engineering / Information Systems
- Related Quantitative / Technology fields
- Currently pursuing (final year with no more than 6 months remaining) OR completed a Bachelor’s degree in the last 6 months in:
- Core Competencies & Skills:
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and logical reasoning capabilities.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Genuine passion for technology, enterprise software, cloud solutions, and customer engagement.
- Location & Availability:
- Based in or able to work fully on-site in Johannesburg, Gauteng, with the ability to travel under 25% if required.
