About the Role & ISP Operations

An established Internet Service Provider (ISP) operating near Pullens Hope and Hendrina, Mpumalanga is seeking a hands-on IT Network Technician to join their technical operations team. The firm provides high-speed Wireless internet and FTTH (Fibre-to-the-Home) connectivity across residential, commercial, and agricultural client sites.

This field role involves on-site installations, hardware configuration, network troubleshooting, and direct client support. A company vehicle is provided during working hours for field service calls.

Key Responsibilities & Daily Field Support

The IT Network Technician will carry out duties across four main service areas:

1. Wireless & FTTH Installations

  • On-Site Setup: Conduct physical installations of wireless internet CPEs, routers, switches, VoIP devices, and security cameras.
  • Working at Heights: Safely mount and align antennas, masts, and cabling on towers, rooftops, and elevated structures.

2. Network Troubleshooting & Diagnostics

  • System Testing: Identify signal interference, hardware faults, line noise, and routing issues on MikroTik and Ubiquiti hardware.
  • Performance Monitoring: Track network health, perform firmware updates, and resolve connectivity interruptions efficiently.

3. Maintenance & Hardware Configuration

  • Preventative Upkeep: Execute routine equipment maintenance to keep client connections stable.
  • Device Setup: Configure wireless APs, IP cameras, VoIP gateways, and user routers.

4. Client Communication & Technical Support

  • On-Site Liaison: Communicate clearly with clients in Afrikaans and English to explain technical issues and provide post-installation guidance.

Candidate Profile & Minimum Entry Requirements

To qualify for consideration for Reference CR2848, applicants must meet the following mandatory criteria:

  • Work Experience & Technical Knowledge:
    • Minimum 1 year of recent practical experience in technical IT support and wireless network installation (Mandatory).
    • Solid working knowledge of MikroTik, Ubiquiti, VoIP systems, and IP security cameras (Essential).
    • Hands-on experience diagnosing and troubleshooting wireless ISP infrastructure (Wireless & FTTH).
  • Physical & Safety Requirements:
    • Medically fit and fully capable of working safely at heights (masts, rooftops, ladders).
  • Language Skills:
    • Must be fully bilingual in Afrikaans and English with strong verbal and written skills (Mandatory for client communication).
  • Licensing, Mobility & Transport:
    • Valid driver’s licence and own reliable transport to get to and from the workplace daily (Mandatory; company vehicle provided during work hours).
    • Must reside in or near Pullens Hope / Hendrina (within daily commuting distance).
