STADIO is seeking an organized, student-focused Library Assistant to join its Durbanville Campus team in Cape Town. In this essential academic support role, you will manage daily library operations, assist students and academic staff with resource navigation, maintain physical and digital catalog systems, and maintain a quiet, supportive study environment.
Key Responsibilities & Daily Deliverables
The Library Assistant will manage campus library services across four core operational areas:
1. Front-Desk Library Services & Student Support
- Circulation Desk: Manage the issue, return, and renewal of physical library books, study guides, and academic materials.
- Student Information Desk: Assist students, lecturers, and researchers with query resolution, database navigation, and resource location.
2. Cataloging & Resource Management
- Inventory & Shelving: Process new book acquisitions, maintain proper Dewey Decimal / library classification shelving, and perform regular stock checks.
- Digital Database Support: Assist students in accessing e-books, online journals, and electronic academic databases (e.g., EBSCOhost, Sabinet).
3. Study Environment & Administration
- Study Space Supervision: Maintain quiet, clean, and disciplined study areas conducive to learning and individual research.
- Administrative Duties: Maintain accurate circulation records, collect library fines or overdue notifications, and support overall campus operations.
4. Academic Literacy Assistance
- Research Orientation: Orientate first-year students on library navigation, catalog search tools, and basic referencing guidelines.
Candidate Profile & Minimum Entry Requirements

- Educational Qualifications:
- Grade 12 / Matric Certificate (Essential).
- Tertiary qualification in Library and Information Science, Information Management, or related field (Advantageous).
- Experience Requirements:
- Previous experience working in an academic, school, or public library setting (Highly Advantageous).
- Experience with library management software systems and online research databases.
- Skills & Personal Attributes:
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- High computer literacy and proficiency with standard library management software and MS Office.
