Career Advice for ROSSMIN Applicants

  1. The “Heavy Industry” Mindset: Mining and mineral processing are rugged environments. In your interview, emphasize your willingness to work on-site and your “hands-on” approach to troubleshooting machinery or processes.
  2. Highlight KZN Proximity: Companies in Port Shepstone often prefer candidates from the South Coast or broader KZN area due to logistics. If you are a local, mention this in your cover letter.
  3. Focus on “Process Flow”: For Chemical and Mechanical applicants, show that you understand the limestone processing flow—from quarrying and crushing to fine grinding.

Possible Interview Questions

Technical & Safety

  • “What are the most common mechanical failures you would expect to see on a conveyor belt system in a dusty mining environment?”
  • “Explain the importance of ‘Particle Size Distribution’ in a mineral processing plant.”
  • “Describe the ‘Lock-out Tag-out’ (LOTO) procedure and why it is critical for electrical and mechanical safety.”

Behavioral

  • “Port Shepstone is a niche industrial hub. Why are you interested in starting your career specifically at ROSSMIN?”
  • “Describe a time you had to solve a technical problem with limited resources or supervision.”
