Career Advice for Uber Applicants

  1. The “Marketplace” Mindset: Uber’s business is a “two-sided marketplace” (Supply = Drivers, Demand = Riders). In your interview, show that you understand how changing a price or a promotion affects both sides of that equation.
  2. Focus on SQL: If you have even a basic understanding of SQL, highlight it. Uber relies heavily on data querying to understand trip patterns and delivery times.
  3. Efficiency is Key: Uber loves “Lean” operations. Think of an example where you looked at a process (even a university project) and found a way to make it faster or cheaper using data.

Possible Interview Questions

Analytical & Case Study

  • “If we notice a sudden drop in drivers in Sandton on a Friday night, what data points would you look at first to find the cause?”
  • “How would you decide if a ‘Buy 1 Get 1 Free’ promo is better for Uber Eats than a ‘Free Delivery’ promo?”

Behavioral

  • “Uber moves fast. Tell us about a time you had to make a decision with incomplete information.”
  • “How do you build trust with a stakeholder (like a restaurant partner or a driver group) who is unhappy with a new policy?”
