Absa Group is officially recruiting for a Graduate Learner to join their Advice & Investments division in Sandton. This 12-month fixed-term contract (FTC) is a prestigious entry point into the world of financial services marketing.
The role is perfect for a proactive “storyteller” who wants to learn how to translate complex investment concepts into clear, impactful messaging that helps everyday customers make better financial decisions.
The Role: Financial Narrative & Strategy
Working within the Advice & Investments business, you will move beyond basic marketing. You will be at the heart of the bank’s efforts to engage financial advisors and customers, ensuring that Absa’s “African growth story” is told consistently across all channels.
Key Responsibilities
- Communication Support: Drafting internal messages for advisors and frontline teams to keep them informed on new investment products or market shifts.
- Content Development: Conducting research and copywriting for marketing campaigns, focusing on “customer-friendly” language.
- Project Coordination: Maintaining content calendars, tracking campaign timelines, and ensuring all stakeholders (legal, compliance, and product) have approved the messaging.
- Administrative Support: Preparing status reports, taking meeting notes, and supporting the procurement process for external marketing vendors.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communication, Media Studies, Public Relations, or Journalism.
- Basic Requirement: GET Certificate in Business, Commerce, and Management Studies.
- Status: Must be currently unemployed.
- Attributes: Exceptional writing skills, high attention to detail, and a genuine interest in Wealth and Investments.
Interview Prep: Possible Questions
- “Financial services can be jargon-heavy. How would you explain a ‘Diversified Investment Portfolio’ to a first-time investor?”
- Tip: “I would use an analogy. Instead of jargon, I’d explain that it’s like not putting all your eggs in one basket; by spreading your money across different types of investments, you protect yourself if one specific area performs poorly.”
- “How do you handle a situation where you have tight deadlines for three different stakeholders?”
- Tip: “I prioritize based on business impact and the ‘Critical Path’ of the project. I communicate early with stakeholders to manage expectations and use a structured calendar to ensure no detail is missed.”
- “Why are you interested specifically in ‘Advice & Investments’ marketing?”
- Tip: “Marketing a bank isn’t just about selling a product; it’s about building trust. In Advice & Investments, clear communication literally changes people’s financial futures. I want to be part of that impact.”
