About Sandvik Rock Processing & Corporate Ecosystem

Rock Processing is a high-performing, market-leading business area within the global Sandvik Group. As an industry pioneer, Sandvik Rock Processing is a premier supplier of heavy equipment, engineering tools, parts, service, and advanced technical solutions for processing rock and minerals within the global mining and construction sectors. Their specialized application areas span heavy crushing, industrial screening, breaking, and structural demolition.

At Rock Processing, development, advanced technology, and environmental sustainability intersect. Operating a massive cross-border logistics network, the group is launching its Supply Chain Graduate Intake in Kempton Park. This internship is a high-yield professional development platform where an analytical graduate will be integrated into international business workflows and complex logistics projects.

Analytical Scope & Key Performance Areas

The Supply Intern will operate within a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, managing big-data interpretation, process engineering, and international stakeholder coordination:

1. Data Analytics & Business Intelligence Reporting

  • Data Assessment: Evaluate complex demand and supply data architectures across multiple internal enterprise resource planning (ERP) and data platforms.
  • Big Data Interpretation: Interpret big data sets, drilling down into deep metrics to construct visual presentations for executive discussions.
  • Statistical Reporting: Build, maintain, and publish critical daily, weekly, and monthly Supply statistics and performance tracking data across the Screening Solutions division.
  • Dataset Structuring: Assist in organizing, cleaning, and structuring large logistics datasets for smooth cross-team organizational access.

2. Supply Network Simulation & Project Planning

  • EMEA Project Alignment: Actively participate as a core contributor to the EMEA Planning Project, hitting key activity milestones and project deliverables.
  • Network Simulation: Build scenario models and simulations within the supply network to optimize stock availability and compress supplier lead times.
  • Discrepancy Auditing: Analyze Order In-Take and global supply timelines to identify system discrepancies that negatively impact customer delivery promises.

3. Continuous Process Improvement (CPI)

  • Workflow Optimization: Analyze existing logistics workflows and performance metrics to isolate operational bottlenecks.
  • Best Practice Engineering: Design, build, audit, and adjust new “Best Practice” workflow models before rolling them out across the division.
  • Rapid Improvement Plans: Produce immediate “Rapid Improvement Plans” to fix localized supply gaps while driving long-term sustainable system improvements.

4. Stakeholder Coordination

  • Logistics Liaison: Coordinate across multiple international business units and global stakeholders regarding active order handling, dispatch timelines, and live delivery statuses.

Candidate Profile & Selection Criteria

To pass Sandvik’s automated compliance filters, applicants must strictly possess:

  • Basic Education: Grade 12 / Matric certificate.
  • Tertiary Degree: A completed 3-to-4 year Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university.
  • Preferred Disciplines: A qualification directly linked to Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Commerce, Business Administration, or Customer Service is highly advantageous.
  • Mandatory Attachment: Absolute Requirement: You must attach your official Statement of Results / Academic Transcripts to your application bundle.
  • Citizenship: Valid South African citizenship.
  • Software Stack: High proficiency across software applications, with Advanced Microsoft Excel capabilities (data sorting, pivot tables, complex formulas).

Required Core Competencies

  • Strong Analytical Logic: Natural ability to spot data trends, troubleshoot discrepancies, and solve complex problems under pressure.
  • Fast-Paced Adaptability: High eagerness to learn, pivot, and work effectively both independently and as an active team player inside a multinational office.
  • Communication Mastery: Excellent verbal and written organizational communication skills to manage international corporate relationships.

Career Advice for Sandvik Applicants

  1. Highlight Your Advanced Excel Capabilities: This role involves heavy “big data interpretation” and “building simulations”. Don’t just list Excel as a generic bullet points. Dedicate a technical profile section to proving you understand VLOOKUPs/XLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, Power Query, or Data Conditional Formatting, as the screening team prioritizes candidates who love spreadsheets.
  2. Do Not Forget Your Statement of Results: Sandvik explicitly states that candidates must attach their Statement of Results. Applications submitted without academic transcripts or partial results will be instantly rejected by the candidate tracking system.
  3. Showcase Project or Coursework Wins: If you completed a final-year supply chain simulation project, operations research assignment, or data analysis thesis, highlight it briefly in your resume’s personal statement to show you understand supply networks.

Sample Interview Preparation Questions

Technical, Big Data & Supply Chain Questions

  • Question (Data Interpretation): “The job description highlights drilling down into big data for presentations. If you are given a massive spreadsheet containing thousands of conflicting order entries and delivery delays across EMEA, how do you systematically isolate the root cause of the delay?”
  • Question (Lead-Time Simulations): “We look for interns who can build simulations to improve stock availability and lead times. What key data variables (such as transit modes, customs clear times, or buffer stock levels) would you calculate when modeling a supply chain scenario?”

Behavioral & Continuous Improvement Questions

  • Question (Rapid Improvement Execution): “Tell us about a time during your university studies or practical projects where you noticed a process or workflow was highly inefficient. How did you design a solution to fix it, and what was the outcome?”
  • Question (Cross-Border Stakeholder Communication): “As part of Rock Processing, you will be interacting with diverse, international stakeholders on delivery statuses. How do you ensure your communication remains clear, professional, and responsive when dealing with teams across different time zones and cultures?”
