Hilton is seeking an Engineering Intern to join the property team in Cape Town, Western Cape. Operating within the Architecture, Design & Engineering unit, the intern will gain hands-on technical exposure to building systems engineering, equipment maintenance, project planning, technical diagnostics, and compliance reporting under the guidance of senior engineers.
Key Responsibilities & Daily Deliverables
The Engineering Intern will support the on-site engineering and facilities team across four key functional areas:
1. Project Planning & Technical Documentation
- Engineering Plans: Assist senior engineers with project planning, system design, and implementation activities across hotel plant operations.
- Drawings & Specifications: Prepare engineering drawings, technical specifications, reports, and operational documentation.
- Technical Research: Conduct research and gather technical data to support facilities and equipment engineering projects.
2. Systems Testing, Inspection & Troubleshooting
- Equipment Testing: Support the physical testing, routine inspection, and performance evaluation of equipment, HVAC/mechanical units, electrical systems, and hotel infrastructure.
- Technical Problem-Solving: Assist with troubleshooting technical breakdowns, identifying operational solutions, and maintaining equipment reliability.
3. Data Analysis & Performance Reporting
- Operational Analytics: Analyze facility operational data, system metrics, and energy performance to compile findings and optimization recommendations.
- Process Improvement: Participate in project meetings and contribute proactive ideas for workflow and process enhancements.
4. Safety, Compliance & Record Keeping
- Standards Adherence: Ensure all engineering activities comply with Hilton company policies, health and safety standards, and regional engineering regulations.
- Project Documentation: Maintain accurate, organized records of all project activities, equipment logs, and inspection results.
Candidate Profile & Minimum Entry Requirements
To qualify for consideration for this engineering internship at Hilton, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Requirements:
- Currently pursuing a Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Industrial, Chemical, or a related discipline) (Essential).
- Strong academic performance record with a demonstrated interest in practical engineering applications.
- Software & Technical Proficiencies:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint) (Essential).
- Familiarity with engineering design and drafting software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or relevant industrial software) (Advantageous).
- Core Competencies:
- Solid foundational understanding of engineering principles, methodologies, and technical schematics.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and diagnostic capabilities.

- Location: Based in or able to commute to Cape Town, Western Cape for on-site duties at Canopy by Hilton Longkloof.
