Key Responsibilities & Learning Areas
As an Inspector in Training, your primary mandate is to maintain continuous commitment to academic excellence while actively learning to ensure the safety, integrity, and compliance of specialized plant equipment.
Your training will cover:
- Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) & Visual Inspections: Learning to perform and evaluate visual checks, wall thickness measurements, magnetic particle testing, and dye penetrant testing.
- Advanced Technology Mastery: Learning to recommend and interpret specialized high-tech NDT results, including UT, TOFD, PAUT, IRIS, Eddy Current, GUL, and conventional/computed X-rays.
- Compliance & Regulation Standards: Mastering the requirements of the Pressure Equipment Regulations (PER), auditing safety device calibrations, reviewing radiographs, and observing pressure tests.
- Asset Integrity Management: Learning to assess in-service pressure vessels, steam generators, and piping networks to identify potential failures, minimize downtime, and map out equipment replacement schedules.
- Technical Reporting: Composing precise, individual technical reports to document plant findings, flag integrity risks, and support alternative repair recommendations.
Job Requirements & Qualifications
- Minimum Education: A completed Grade 12 (Matric) with at least a 50% pass mark in Pure Mathematics, Physical Science, and English.
- Preferred Qualification: A completed S4 National Diploma in Mechanical, Metallurgy, or Welding Engineering will be favorably considered.
- License: A valid driver’s license is highly desirable.
- Core Competencies: Strong optimization of work processes, accountability, decision quality, excellent communication skills, and an exceptional capacity to adapt and learn quickly in a complex environment.
